It is a while ago since a I wrote some of my little new experience here in Melbourne. Like I mentioned before I don’t go on big trips like the most of the international students. But I try to find out more what is up in Melbourne. So you will find some nice impressions from…
Spring Fashion Week
At the beginning of September was the spring fashion week. At Swantson St. in the CBD were to whole day some fashion events, big shows in the Melbourne Townhall and a lot of designers showed their collections in several stores. I only was at one night downtown to have a look, if something special is up. But I didn’t had really luck and so I just shot a few photos and went home soon.
Streetart & Vintage
Melbourne is the city of streetart and vintage cloths. Everywhere you go, you see graffiti or other awesome streetart styles. Okay, not all of them are awesome. Still, streetart gives the city a special culture and a youthful feeling of the city. If you are a fan of vintage cloths Melbourne is the best city for you. It was strange in the beginning to see this fashion style at people. After a while you I don’t realise it as “different” anymore. You can find vintage cloths everywhere. In the suburbs as well as in fahsion stores in the CBD. Fitzroy or Brunswick are two suburbs who are great for vintage. But I think there are more…
Sophie
yea, Sophie gets her own headline 🙂 She and her parents stoped at Tuesday on their way to Adelaide in Melbourne. It was great to see a friend from Germany IN Melbourne. Great but also strange. I tried to be a good tourist guide and showed them the city, Queen Victoria Market, enjoyed the ride with the City Cycle Tram, went shopping for a while in the city and had a great ending with an coffee and a yummi cake in St. Kilda. I hope I will see her very soon in Sidney. But I have to hurry up, because she is leaving Sidney in the beginning of November.
AFL
AFL means Aussie Football League. It is the biggest sport type here in Melbourne or in whole Australia. I hadn’t had the chance to go into the stadium during the season and the tickets for the finals were too high. Or are too high.
The Grand Final is a big event here in Melbourne. It’s not only the game. Also a big parade on friday was celebrated in the city. It was like whole Melbourne is on the streets. Than on saturday everbody watched the “Grand Final”. In the stadium, at the Federation Square, in a pub or just at home. I was one of the people who watched the game at the Federation Square with a friend. It was a awesome feeling with the screaming and singing fans the whole time. Different to the world cup atmosphere in Germany. Until the end of the game. The screen told us: Collingwood 68 – St. Kilda 68. Equal! We, the european people, didn’t know what would come next, but expected that it will get overtime. But everbody was silent and looked stunned at the big screen. So, what will happen? Exactly! A rematch next saturday. Isn’t that crazy? The atmosphere was really strange afterwards. No cheering, no screaming, nothing.
I’m looking forward to saturday how the final game will end. Hopefully for St. Kilda.
Sandringham
On sunday I went with some friends to Sandringham. A last-metro-station suburb. It’s a nice beach without the view to the city. Maybe I will go swimming over here in the summer, instead of the crowded beach in St. Kilda. We will see…
We ended the day with a too expensive beer at the rooftop. If you are in Melbourne you have to go there. The music and the people are awesome!
Brunswick
And a few impressions of a sunny sunday in the suburb Brunswick…
